Zeitgeist Community Learning Center
(ZCLC) is an innovative non-profit corporation providing free after-school and summer programs to elementary (3rd-5th) grade students in the Crenshaw District of Los Angeles.
Zeitgeist means the spirit of the times. At ZCLC we are trying to capture that spirit and shape it into a positive force that affects the entire Los Angeles community.
ZCLC not only offers a safe place for students to come during non-school hours in a neighborhood noted for gang activity, but also trains high school mentors to provide homework help and act as positive role models for the younger students in a variety of enriching activities.
ZCLC also offers weekend workshops for parents such as Navigating through the LAUSD Magnet Program: Being an Advocate for your Child, and How to Protect your Child from Predators. For our students, there's math and money workshops and special gatherings for our former students who are now in middle school and high school.
Zeitgeist helps me to finish all of my homework. They also help me with my writing, math, spelling and yoga. When I first came here, I didn't want to be here. I didn't want to to come here because I didn't think they would help me. But when I saw the mentors and Ms. Robin help the other kids, I got help too. That's why I like Zeitgeist.

ZCLC Announcements
The Zeitgeist Committee is proudly holding their 3rd annual Swim-a-Thon at the Calabasas Tennis and Swim Club on May 17th, Sunday 11AM-4PM. With over 11,200 laps swam in the past, they are still blowing us out of the water with their goals set for 5 figures. They hope to spark the interest of every person across Los Angeles to help raise enough money so Zeitgeist can continue serving the Baldwin Village community.
Join us in whatever way your heart is stirred. Donate and be a part of helping educate our most desperate youth. Sponsor a swimmer at $1 per lap, give a flat-rate donation, or be a part of the challenge and raise money on behalf of Zeitgeist and swim laps. So put your goggles on and watch the flood gates open as we transform lives of one generation to the next, one person at a time. Donations can be made online at www.zclc.org or sent to Zeitgeist Community Learning Center at P.O. Box 341011 Los Angeles, CA 90034. For more information call Jared Stern at 818-591-5954.

ZCLC receives $10,000 grant from the Jewish Community Foundation. Established in 1954, the Jewish Community Foundation is the largest manager of charitable assets and the leader in planned giving solutions for Greater Los Angeles Jewish philanthropists. The Foundation currently manages assets of $790 million and ranks among the ten largest Los Angeles foundations (based on assets). In 2007, The Foundation and its 1,200-plus donors distributed $77 million in grants to more than 1,700 organizations with programs that span the range of philanthropic giving.
ZCLC welcomes Spirituality for Kids (sfk.org) this summer. SFK teaches kids tools for life to end the cycle of conflict for children at risk-emotionally, physically, and spiritually. It begins by teaching the tools that will help them realize their full potential and change the course for them and future generations. |
