Zeitgeist Community Learning Center
(ZCLC) is an innovative non-profit corporation providing after-school and summer programs to elementary (3rd-5th) grade students in the Crenshaw District of Los Angeles at a nominal cost.
Zeitgeist means the spirit of the times. At ZCLC we are trying to capture that spirit and shape it into a positive force that affects the entire Los Angeles community.
ZCLC not only offers a safe place for students to come during non-school hours in a neighborhood noted for gang activity, but also trains high school mentors to provide homework help and act as positive role models for the younger students in a variety of enriching activities.
ZCLC also offers weekend workshops for parents such as Navigating through the LAUSD Magnet Program: Being an Advocate for your Child, and How to Protect your Child from Predators. For our students, there's math and money workshops and special gatherings for our former students who are now in middle school and high school.
If I didn't have Zeitgeist, I would be in another program where all they do is play, but here we do our homework and learn how to be better students.
